From the early weeks of the coronavirus pandemic, President Donald Trump fell behind Democrat Joe Biden and failed to close the gap before Election Day. Biden is posting a wide national lead and is ahead in most of the battleground states, though Trump still has a discernible path to a second term.
Of the four Great Lakes states Trump flipped in 2016, three are now leaning toward Biden — Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Those states alone would be enough to tilt the Electoral College back toward Democrats: Trump would need to run the table in the remaining toss-up states and flip at least one of the states in the “Lean Democratic” category to win.
